CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART, O GOD; AND RENEW A RIGHT SPIRIT WITHIN ME. CAST ME NOT AWAY FROM THY PRESENCE AND TAKE NOT THY HOLY SPIRIT FROM ME. RESTORE UNTO ME THE JOY OF THY SALVATION ; AND UPHOLD ME WITH THY FREE SPIRIT (PSALM 51:10-12). It was appropriate for David to say these things because he wasnt born again. He wasnt a New Creation. The sins of the whole world had not been paid for by Jesus. David was only looking forward to that Day when his sins and that of the whole world would be paid for.(Rom. 4:6-7). But you see, every Believer in Christ today has been given a totally new heart (IICor. 5:17) and Jesus has promised Never to leave nor forsake us(Heb. 13:5). Since David didnt have this promise, it was okay for him to say these things. He was in the old testament. But for a New Testament believer to say these things and even compose it into a song is the greatest level of unbelief. Its like slapping Jesus in the face and denying His promise to us as recorded in Hebrews 13:5. Dont ever ask God to give you a new heart or a new spirit after you have been born again. What you receive if you sin as a child of God is forgiveness and not a new heart(IJohn 1:9). We have a better covenant and a better promise than David and all of the Patriarchs in the old testament. Therefore I pray for you, that God will give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him...; the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints ....(Eph. 1:18-19). Amen.
