CRIKEY!! No wonder Beau is in trouble!! The Mayor says Beau is one of the worst dogs they have ever had and needs to be destroyed. And yet we have met gentle Beau, and he has flown through the temperament testing by an expert. We were also told that the pound staff who have cared for this big boy, played with him, cuddled him and essentially raised him for the past two years cried when his destruction order came through. This is a letter that we wrote the Mayor and colleagues today after they invited us to meet in Council Chambers tomorrow.... 1. Can we ask your office to please consider the implications of accusing HUHA, a Reputable Charity of threatening your staff and sending death threats. Aside from it being defamatory and untrue we would appreciate it if you would communicate directly with us in the first instance rather than through the media. We pride ourselves for being open, honest and ethical…if you have a concern, you only have to ask. 2. We also note you are now making statements that HUHA was offered a chance to apply to the courts for the ownership of Beau so he could be transferred into our care, a year ago. This is simply not true. Despite all our best efforts we have had no olive leaf offered by your management. If there had of been Beau would be safely in a new home by now. 3. At the meeting we would like to discuss openly what we can do to help resolve this situation. Beau’s owner is in our opinion the cause of grievance in this situation and she is most certainly being a liability to council, Beau and HUHA. 4. As has been our intentions all along, we would just like to help. Beau is the victim of an ignorant owner that did not keep him controlled or safe. It is our belief that any dog of any breed would have found itself in trouble, if kept in Beau’s situation. 5. We suggest that a menacing classification and rehoming him to an experienced and responsible home through HUHA, and out of the Kapiti District is the best solution. 6. Our lawyer is currently finding a way to give you this opportunity. Last night Beau was signed over to HUHA by his owner should he be reprieved, this is the first step to a resolution. 7. We would be happy to support you publicly with regards to the owner being at fault in this situation. 8.
