CROCODILE SIGHTING AT MAGUK Early on Wednesday, 19 June 2013, a walker spotted a crocodile, estimated to be 2.5 metres in length, close to the footbridge crossing the Maguk creek. The visitor was confident it was a saltwater crocodile. They did the correct thing and immediately alerted Park Headquarters via the Emergency Call Device (ECD) in the car park. Rangers arrived promptly on site and closed the area for further investigation. Since Wednesday, rangers have been conducting night time crocodile surveys and have now cleared the area. The area has re-opened today (Wednesday 26th June 2013)! Although this is a crocodile-managed area and Maguk was given the all clear earlier in the year, this highlights that crocodiles can move into waterways at anytime. It is important to always follow safety signs and report any possible sighting as soon as possible.
