CROOKWELL RESIDENTS BEWARE!!! YOUR AREA HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF A SHARP INCREASE IN STEAL FROM MOTOR VEHICLE OFFENCES. LOCK YOUR VEHICLE!!! - REGARDLESS OF ITS LOCATION REMOVE ALL VALUABLES FROM YOUR VEHICLE RING POLICE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HEAR OR SEE ANY SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR The Crookwell township has seen an increased in steal from motor vehicles. Within the period of the last week, 10 vehicles in the Crookwell township have been reported to police where valuables have been stolen from them. The vast majority of these vehicles were NOT locked, making it all too easy for thieves to enter the vehicles and make good with the owners belongings. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU! Police request everyone take all due care and responsibility for your own property by securing vehicles and removing valuables from vehicles whilst unattended regardless of where the vehicle is parked. Thieves are opportunistic by nature and failing to take responsibility for securing vehicles and removing valuable items presents a soft and easy target for these types of criminals. It should also be noted that it is actually an offence to leave a vehicle unsecured and anyone taking this risk can actually be issued an infringement notice. Whilst this has been explained in an effort to educate the community it is not the primary reason for this notice. The Hume Local Area Command is currently investigating the peak in numbers of Steal from Motor Vehicle offences which have occurred in your immediate area recently. This spike in crime has prompted our additional efforts with regard to community awareness and education. Police will make every effort to minimise crime but a degree of attention and responsibility must also be demonstrated by the general community, particularly with regards to the security of personal property.
