CROWN Weather (Thursday -9AM) - HEAVY SNOW WILL LEAD TO - POOR TRAVEL CONDITIONS & ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES TO A GOOD PORTION OF NORTHERN MAINE FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY: An area of low pressure is forecast to develop near Long Island, New York tonight and will track northeastward across the Gulf of Maine on Friday and then into the Canadian Maritimes on Friday evening. For Tonight: Steady precipitation is expected to develop across all of northern Maine by midnight tonight. Precipitation type will be dependent on where you live. Across northern Aroostook County and the Saint John Valley, the precipitation will be mostly all snow. Across the Caribou-Presque Isle area, the precipitation will be a rain-snow mix with mostly all rain expected south of Presque Isle tonight. On Friday: Once again, the precipitation type across northern Maine will be heavily dependent on where you are located. South of Mars Hill, I think we will see a mix of snow and rain during the morning which gradually changes to all snow during Friday afternoon with the snow continuing into Friday evening before ending. Travel should be okay for much of the day, however, roads are likely to become slippery by mid to late afternoon Friday. Around Caribou and Presque Isle, precipitation will start off as a rain-snow mix early in the morning, but will change to all snow by mid-morning or so. Snow is then forecast to continue right through all of Friday afternoon and Friday evening and the snow may be heavy at times. Roads are expected to become increasingly more slippery as the morning progresses on Friday with hazardous travel conditions expected during Friday afternoon and Friday evening. Isolated power outages are also a possibility during Friday afternoon and Friday evening as the wet, sticky snow will weigh down trees and power lines. North winds gusting to 30 mph will lead to some blowing and drifting snow during Friday afternoon and Friday evening. For the Saint John Valley and northern Aroostook County, it looks like the precipitation will stay as all snow throughout the day Friday before it ends sometime on Friday evening. The snow is expected to be heavy at times throughout the day Friday as well. Slippery roads and hazardous travel conditions are expected throughout Friday and Friday evening. Isolated power outages are also a possibility as the wet, sticky snow will weigh down tree limbs and power lines. North winds gusting to 30 mph will lead to some blowing and drifting snow throughout Friday and Friday evening. This is a storm that I am keeping a very close eye on and I will continue to have updates for you as conditions warrant. Keep checking back for later updates on this storm.
