CS Kamau is contemplating introducing a bill to authorize public transport vehicles to carry standing passengers. Apparently he has not bothered to find out why Kenyans strongly advised the late Michuki to put a ban on standing passengers. The ban helped in reducing the road deaths and above all, gave dignity to commuters. It also minimized pickpocketing and maltreatment of kids and women who could not win the scramble for seats in the matatus. What justification can Kamau have for reversing those gains? Is it greed by the operators and Kamau? Has he been given kitu kidogo to look elsewhere as commuters get further dehumanized by the generally poorly maintained public vehicles? Do you think Kamau/government should reintroduce standing in public transport vehicles?
