CSABA LASZLO last night urged Marius Zaliukas to REJECT any interest from Rangers and quit Scottish football for good. SunSport revealed Ibrox boss Ally McCoist’s interest in the out-of-contract Hearts skipper. But his former Tynecastle mentor and current Lithuania manager admits the 29-year-old defender could kiss goodbye to his top-level career if he drops to the third tier. Laszlo said: “It is interesting to hear that Rangers want Marius and it comes as no surprise. “He is a quality player and the type of aggressive centre-back that every manager would like. “I’ve so much respect for Rangers, and especially their manager, who held the club together in difficult times, but this would not be a good move for Marius. “In normal circumstances it would be great for him to sign for a club of their size and their history, but these are not normal circumstances. “He is 29 and playing at that level would do him no good.” Laszlo is sorry to see three of his ex-Hearts stars — David Templeton, Ian Black and Lee Wallace — all languishing in the lower reaches. He said: “David and Lee sacrificed playing for Scotland to sign for Rangers and that was their decision. “They are two very good young players who had the potential to play in the English Premier League, or at least the Championship. “Ian is 28 and Marius is 29, so it’s different for them. “I remember Craig Levein was criticised by a lot of knowledgeable football people when he talked about including a player from Scotland’s fourth league. “I would have the same problem if Marius were to sign for Rangers. “Even though he is my captain and an important player, it would be hard for me to justify picking him to the people here.” Laszlo smiles at the memory of a hot-headed Zaliukas suffering four red cards in one season at Hearts — prompting his boss to recommend anger management.
