CSI Sunday Divine Service - June 30, 2013 Sixth Sunday After Pentecost Theme: Community in God’s Kingdom Prayer: --------- O God, our Lord, through whose Son your kingdom has been brought to this world of ours, grant us the ability to inherit the kingdom, where we may experience and be effectors of justice and peace, righteousness and reconciliation and enable us to overcome the barriers of cast, race and class and live together as one community, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with us in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen Bible Readings: ---------------- Old Testament Reading Micah 6: 6-8 6 With what shall I come before the LORD AND bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Book of Psalm 99 1 The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble, he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. 2 Great is the LORD in Zion, he is exalted over all the nations. 3 Let them praise your great and awesome name- he is holy. 4 The King is mighty, he loves justice- you have established equity, in Jacob you have done what is just and right. 5 Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his footstool, he is holy. 6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name, they called on the LORD AND he answered them. 7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud, they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them. 8 LORD our God, you answered them, you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds. 9 Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Epistle Reading I Peter 2:9-10 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gospel Reading Luke 6:27-36 27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. 32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
