Cabinet Ministers Meet in Gaza to Kickstart Reconstruction GAZA, December 30, 2014 (WAFA) – The Palestinian cabinet ministers Tuesday held their weekly session in Gaza to kickstart the Gaza reconstruction process. The cabinet’s weekly session came a day after a delegation of eight ministers and 39 government employees arrived at the besieged coastal enclave through Erez crossing in the second visit of its kind since the national consensus government took office in June. The delegation included the ministers of health, education, social affairs, local government and the heads of the water, power and environment authorities, who have ministerial rank. Chaired by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, the cabinet’s session was held via videoconferencing at the Prime Minister’s headquarters in Gaza and Ramallah. Speaking during a press conference following the session, Government Spokesperson Ehab Bseiso described the meeting, which discussed several issues, including civil servants, electricity supply, border crossings and Gaza reconstruction, as ‘important and effective’. With regard to the public servants issue, including those who have been employed since 2007, Bseiso said that the cabinet has taken some measures that would guarantee all public servants’ rights. He said the cabinet is committed to reinstate civil servants who have been employed before 2007 according to the needs of each ministry in a manner that guarantees public interest. Bseiso stressed that all actors have to provide the proper platform and cooperate away from any political disputes in order for the government to resolve the issue based on the national and institutional unity. Speaking about electricity issue, Bseiso said that some technical, administrative and financial measures have been adopted by the Palestinian Energy Authority in order to improve electricity fees collection as well as the purchase and supply of industrial fuel. He added that these measures would effectively help increase Gaza population access to power to over 16 hours a day, which to be implemented needs the cooperation of various stakeholders. Speaking about the border crossings, Bseiso conveyed the cabinet’s readiness to take control of all border crossings. “We look forward to seeing all actors assuming their responsibilities so that the government would take control of the border crossings. This would be an important and effective step for Gaza reconstruction and the unification of relevant institutional and official efforts,” said Bseiso. He called upon the international community and donor countries to fulfill their pledges put forward at the Cairo-based Gaza Reconstruction Conference in order for the government to implement its Gaza reconstruction plan. “There are still many more steps to take in order to alleviate the suffering of Gaza population. The cabinet’s meeting sends a clear and positive message for Gaza’s population and all Palestinian, Arab and international political parties that Gaza is an integral part of the Palestinian national project and we look forward to implementing the government’s decision in regard to civil servants, electricity and reconstruction, Bseiso concluded. palestine.dk/cabinet-ministers-meet-gaza-kickstart-reconstruction/
