Cabinet nod for hospital in Dwarka ---------------------------------------------- New 700-bed hospital to cater to the needs of entire west Delhi The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval for the construction of a 700-bed hospital and medical college in Dwarka. Indira Gandhi Hospital is planned to be developed as a centre for advanced healthcare by the Delhi government. The hospital will cater to the needs to entire West Delhi, including Dwarka and its neighbouring villages. At present, there is only one big government hospital in the area, Deen Dayal Upadhayay, which is overburdened with more than 7,000 new patients daily. The new hospital would provide round-the-clock emergency services, maternity services, surgical facilities, out-patient department, general ward block, airconditioned special ward block, full super-specialty services and teaching facilities. The hospital would be developed as per the green building concept. As per Medical Council India norms, 150 candidates will be taken for admissions in the medical college per year. The hospital is expected to be ready and commissioned within three years. “The health department will keep a close eye on the construction and monitor its progress to ensure its completion at the earliest as the area is not yet covered by any other government hospital,” said Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
