Cairns Carnival Success A team of 10 Herbert River Swimmers competed in the Cairns A grade swim meet last weekend. River swimmers won 9 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals. All swimmers made great PB’s on the weekend. Three local boys left their mark on the carnival. Will Motti 13 continues to make huge gains this season. He PB’ed in his 100 freestyle 1:06.51 and swam an 11 sec PB in his 200 medley as well as a small PB in the 50 backstroke. Lachlan Napier also 13 swam great PB’s in the 50 fly and 50 back 39.54 and a 2 sec PB in his 200 free. He is now close to state qualifying standard and has shown fantastic improvements in his strokes in the last 12 months. Joseph Jackson 13 won 4 open events on the weekend. He swam great PB’s in the 100 free 56.45, 100 butterfly 1:01.80 and 200 butterfly 2:19.09. He again broke 3 Far North QLD allcomer records in these events as well as in the 50 freestyle. Our girls once again had a great meet. Hannah Martin age 10 is showing more confidence with every swim. She swam PB’s in most of her events. Her 50m freestyle was a highlight swam in 40.41. She swam a 1.6 sec improvement in the 50 back and PBed in her 100 free. Sister Chelsea age 12 is showing freestyle to be her best stroke. Her 100 free time of 1:16.59 was a 3 sec PB whilst her 200 medley was a 8.69 sec PB whilst her 50 free was a slick 34.92. Both girls continue to work hard in training and this effort is now paying off. Paris Cantwell age 13 won bronze in the open 200 breaststroke in 3:11.40 which was a 4 sec PB. She was 2nd in the open 50 breaststroke in 41.10 and 3rd in the open 100 fly in 1:20.00. She continues to make inroads in her 200 fly slicing a few more seconds off in 3:02.07. Sister Gypsy age 8 swam 3 out of 4 PB’s moving her up the rankings at a rapid rate. Her 50 free PB of 49.28, 50 back in 57.20 and 50 breast 1:06.49 reflect her consistent training and improved technique and she will continue to improve rapidly as time goes on. Trinity Reinaudo age 10 won her 50 breaststroke event in a PB of 46.38. Her nearest rival was 1.83 sec behind. She did a PB in her 50m back of 48.95 an improvement of 0.69. Despite her diminutive status she is developing into a powerful breaststroker and has really mastered the technique in breaststroke this season. Imogen Napier age 10 after a quiet start really swam well on day 2. She won bronze in the 50 back in 43.07 and swam a 2 sec PB in the 100 free 1:23.62 despite her goggles dislodging. Her breaststroke is really strengthening in the last few carnivals. She will be a great medley swimmer of the future and swam a 2 sec PB at this carnival in the medley. Elizabeth Jackson age 15 had another outstanding meet. She won 4 open events, 50,100, and 200 fly and 100 free. She swam a state qualifying time in the 100 free of 1:03.95 and a 2 sec PB in the 200 fly 2:33.43. Having been training for over 6 years it is only now that she is achieving significant success. Her rate of improvement this season is phenomenal and she is leading the way as one of the clubs senior swimmers now. Joseph and Elizabeth Jackson will represent Herbert River Swimming Club at the upcoming state championships in Brisbane. Both will also represent North QLD in the regional relay events. The club wishes them every success as they take on the best swimmers from QLD, interstate and international entrants.
