Cait and Evanthis from the University of Edinburgh have been in touch and are looking for some help with an autism study; Hello, Our names are Cait Griffin and Evanthi Kouklari and we are postgraduate students at the University of Edinburgh. We are currently completing our theses in conjunction with the University’s Developmental Psychology Lab. We are looking to contact parents of children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), specifically those aged 6- 12. We hope that both parent and child will be able to participate in our research. The aim of the study is to answer questions about social and emotional development, as well as certain types of brain processes such as reasoning and planning during older childhood, particularly in those with ASD. The study requires the participation of both parent and child and involves a combination of tasks and questionnaires. The study will require one visit to the University of Edinburgh where testing should last no more than 1.5-2 hours. Participants will be reimbursed for both their travel expenses and time. All information will be kept strictly confidential and great care will be taken to ensure participants are comfortable and fully informed throughout testing. This research has full ethical approval from the University of Edinburgh ethics committee and as such ensures that the rights and dignity of participants are fully respected at all times. It is hoped that the information we get from this study will help to further our understanding of the relationship between social and emotional development in children with ASD. We would truly appreciate the assistance of you and your child in our endeavour and are more than willing to answer any queries or questions at the email address or numbers provided.
