Caleb is six years old and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in March of 2013 at the age of five. He is a Kindergarten student at Richmond Hill Primary School. He battles to control his blood glucose (blood sugar) levels daily. The only way to check is through constant finger pricks that draw up blood. He is pricked on average 10 times a day, more if his blood sugar is out of his normal range. There is nothing fun about having Type 1 Diabetes. Everything is hard, cold and sharp. Calebs family is working to change that for him. Great strides have been made to train mans best friend to alert to changes in blood glucose. These Diabetic Alert Dogs, or DADs for short, are not cheap though. It takes a lot of work to train a dog to be able to sniff out the changes in a persons scent when they are having a high or low blood glucose. These dogs do it daily though and they save lives. Calebs family would love to be able to help him cope better, both physically and emotionally, with his Type 1 Diabetes by providing him with a warm, cuddly, squishy DAD. Heres your chance to help them on this journey. This will also be a celebration of Caleb managing through his first year as a T1D kid. The event will be held just 10 days shy of his 1 year diaversary. (Thats roughly 3, 550 finger sticks.) Held at The Ice Cream Stop in Richmond Hill on March 15th from 6-10 pm. $10 per plate for either a hamburger or hotdog, chips, drink and kids scoop of Ice Cream. Come down tonight and help us support Caleb in his new chapter from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm.
