California moves to restrict ivory trade! We are excited other states across America are looking to end the commercial ivory trade following the fearless footsteps of New Jersey last summer. According to the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) as much as 90% of the ivory for sale in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. and approximately 80% of the ivory for sale in San Francisco, California is likely illegal under state law, meaning that it is from recently slaughtered wild elephants decimating this keystone guardian species across Africa. The report also found that the proportion of likely illegal ivory in California has roughly doubled--from approximately 25% in 2006 to about 50% in 2014. In 2014 both New Jersey and New York took action to combat ivory trade. Says NRDCs Elly Pepper: Its time for California to step up to the plate and do the same... Elephants DC advocates for the end of all ivory trade worldwide.
