California uber allis!!! Arrived in LA Sunday afternoon and made it over to Long Beach. I loved it before I even got out of the shuttle bus! It had always been a dream of mine to go to California. Inspired by the movie Easy Rider as a teen, my best friend Joe Myers and I were going to drive out in my brothers 63 Chevy convertible, live on a dollar a day (Chef Boy Ar Dee ravioli was .33 at the time) then have lobster morning new and night when we got there. Guess the plan never materialized and the dream came to fruition minus the ravioli and crazy stories only goofy 17 year olds could have experienced. NICE place!!! Right on Ocean boulevard, not far from the piers. Went for a long walk, mostly all concrete and buildings, tho I did saunter down towards the Queen Mary before turning around. Even from such minute exposure I feel such a different world here. In a way, after you assimilate, a city is a city and people are people and its all the same no matter where you are as you focus on the things that make up your normal day. Its these episodes are new when you are torn out of your rut that you open (vulnerable?) to new ways of looking at the world. Oddly, a strange sense of loneliness envelopes me. Traveling alone is not a pleasant experience because it robs you of one of the principles of life and that is to share- to share your world with others, the ups and the downs, to bond with others and have them share back with you. Having an experience alone is not nearly as rewarding.
