Call for Participants Spring (Break) Human Rights Program in Bosnia March 21 - April 1, 2014 Application Deadline: December 15, 2013 Dear Joseph, Global Youth Connect is now accepting applications for our brand new March 2014 (Spring Break) Human Rights Program in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Program Dates are March 21 - April 1st. Deadline for applications is December 15, 2013. We would greatly appreciate it if you could forward this information to young leaders, ages 18 - 30, who are interested in international relations, post-conflict studies, peacebuilding, human rights advocacy, cross-cultural programming, or any related subject. In an exciting new partnership with the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR-BH) -- one of Bosnia’s most active and accomplished human rights organizations with other branches around the Balkans -- this GYC program will focus on how local Bosnian youth and civil society organizations are trying to rebuild the country nearly two decades after the signing of the peace accord. Despite endemic political corruption in BiH, the organizations and youth involved in this program are tirelessly working to advance women’s rights, children’s rights, LGBTI rights, Roma rights, the rights of missing persons, the arts, conflict resolution, and a responsible media, among others. The program will bring together 10 - 15 US/International youth with an equal number of emerging Bosnian youth activists in a blend of workshops and brainstorming sessions, site visits to important historical locations, meetings with representatives from the government, bilateral and international organizations, media and cultural figures, volunteer service in the form of a group project, and two nights in homestays. When visiting the Krajina Region -- where some of the most intensely perpetrated (and ignored) ethnic cleansing occurred – GYC participants (along with their Bosnian peers) will explore the concept of conflict resolution with GYC’s longstanding partner organization, the Center for Peacebuilding (CIM). GYC participants will gain experience in the application of international human rights theory, as well as deepen their understanding of the post-conflict challenges faced by Bosnians today, while helping to bolster Bosnias future through strengthening its network of youth and civil society organizations. With many thanks, and in solidarity, Global Youth Connect (with YIHR-BH & CIM)
