Call me old-fashioned, but I often get disturbed at how little ability the general population of my generation shows in doing any sort of mental math. Embracing technology will never be something I oppose, but the logical skill-set that doing mental mathematics fosters is something that carries over into a lot of other fields and endeavors in life. If we dont at least encourage some critical thinking in the way of logic, the change in mindset well see would seemingly be one in a direction away from independent thought and toward a robotic follower mindset.
