Call to end domestic violence against women and children: Beyond Blue mental health approach will be the blueprint for national campaign BEYOND Blue’s successful strategies in mental health will become the blueprint for a new national campaign to end Australia’s “epidemic” of violence against women and children. A group of prominent Australians, including former governor-general Quentin Bryce, will join the campaign against domestic violence, with the list to be unveiled at a national launch in Sydney on Friday. The Daily Telegraph can reveal Rosie Batty, whose 11-year-old son Luke was bashed to death by his estranged father, is among those involved. And the killing of Mosman woman Kate Malonyay, 32, by her ex-boyfriend Elliott Coulson, who had attacked another former girlfriend in a similar way, has led to calls for anti-violence programs to become part of the school curriculum. Natasha Stott Despoja, chairwoman of the Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women And Their Children, said domestic violence was now a “national emergency” in Australia. “Every week a woman is killed by her partner or former partner,” she said. It is understood the campaign will have a similar structure to the Beyond Blue organisation, which has become an effective advocate on mental health issues. Government funding of $9 million over four years has already been secured.
