Callahan loves to flip through the pictures on my phone. Since - TopicsExpress

Callahan loves to flip through the pictures on my phone. Since one of the facets of my life is birth work, this often leads to many interesting conversations. Last night, after again discussing what a placenta is, what all the different parts are for and why moms sometimes give me theirs (I turn them into capsules) the conversation turned to how babies eat. Throughout all the photos and real life experiences of mamas openly breastfeeding he has has seen, he has never blinked an eye.. but I learned last night he had no idea they were drinking milk. I explained I had nursed him and all his siblings when they were little. Does it hurt you, mama? he asked. And I realized that the saddest part about not having any more children is that the youngest misses out on so many life experiences that come naturally thru having a baby sibling in the home. I guess conversations- which hopefully foster tenderness, awareness, and acceptance of females and babies and bodies and all that they do- will have to suffice. Just my rambling thoughts this late morning.
