Called to ones next level of responsibility: AUTHOR Gina M Francis iNspired by the Holy Spirit Matthew 4:18-22 Good News Translation (GNT) Jesus Calls Four Fishermen18 As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers who were fishermen, Simon (called Peter) and his brother Andrew, catching fish in the lake with a net. 19 Jesus said to them, “Come with me, and I will teach you to catch people.” 20 At once they left their nets and went with him. 21 He went on and saw two other brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in their boat with their father Zebedee, getting their nets ready. Jesus called them, 22 and at once they left the boat and their father, and went with him. Cross references:Matthew 4:18 : Mark 1:16-Mark 1:20; Luke 5:1-Luke 5:11 Jesus progresses after calling them and gives them a CLEAR SENSE of DIRECTION and VISION and says... I am going to TEACH YOU HOW to CATCH FISH. ----------------------------------------------------- Then we go further and see Jesus gathering them on a MOUNT. Notice each time Jesus taught the people, He sat on a grass verge, on a mount.. Jesus knew how to gather sheep.. Jesus knew how to hear what people needed... Intentional as a teacher, and knowing how to change and heal their soul, He was calculating on each trip that He took. Whether it was to heal one person, change the mindset of one person.. Jesus has always cared about giving people what they need spiritually. No matter where they are in the world, and no matter what calling in the natural and/or spiritual they are called to. Matthew 4:18-22 Good News Translation (GNT) Jesus Calls Four Fishermen18 As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers who were fishermen, Simon (called Peter) and his brother Andrew, catching fish in the lake with a net. Cross references:Matthew 4:18 : Mark 1:16-Mark 1:20; Luke 5:1-Luke 5:11 _____________________________________________________________ Jesus deals with the priority of the heart FIRST. He makes sure that the onlooking disciples who are being trained see that His first priority is that of causing people to have His heart, and knowing HIM as a person. Because knowing Him, would help them understand how He thinks, and why He does what He does, most importantly, why He would desire to invest so much in coming to the earth to rescue so many from a life without Him.. Not just to get them to Heaven, but to allow them to Know JESUS in every area of their life (Jesus told the woman who wanted to know about worship, it wasnt the law regarding knowing God that would cause them to know God, but it would be the pursuit of developing that relationship with Him as He drew them, that would allow them to Know God, Know His Will, allow Him to conform them to HIS Image, Abide in His love, and then from that begin to be led by His Spirit how to love other people both in action and also in demonstration of His Power. _______________________________________________________________________ Jesus taking them to a mount. Do you notice anything symbolic here? What do you see with Jesus talking on the mount with them face to face, and Moses talking on the mount with the people after He met face to face with God? Can you see how much Jesus desires that we really know His Father? ______________________________________________________________________ Jesus teaches about real happiness, and the motive behind every spiritual work that develops a relationship between themselves and God. He begins in Mathew 5 cultivating relationships with others after we have been cultivated by Jesus. But then Chapters 6/7 Jesus goes into more detail on knowing Him, His heart, His motives, His goals.. and makes it clear (which is a running theme in the New Testament) that knowing Jesus is based on spending time with HIM, and never the works we do. As we know a sign that a person has an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ, is by how they allow the HolySpirit to continue to change them, and by how much they allow the Spirit of God to lead, change, and reveal the heart and mind of God.. How do we know? The bible says Jesus said, blessed are you Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood have not revealed these things to you, but my Father which is in Heaven. Jesus wants us to know Him, know His heart, and allow follow the desire and transformation of the HolySpirit that makes us hunger for the one that is hungry for us... _________________________________________________________________________________ AFTER JESUS HELPS THE DISCIPLES UNDERSTAND HIS HEART, HIS MISSION, HIS DESIRE.. then Jesus begins to show AUTHORITY. Mathew 8. How awesome is that? In the midst of all that change, the disciples still were not quite sure who Jesus was... They saw Him command the wind, and were intellectually BAFFLED by HIS ability to SPEAK with AUTHORITY and command the WIND. - Now in order to become a person of authority, it requires you clearly understand the MISSION. Without that, its easy to miss the authority, the mission, and the purpose of the assignment. And this is where power and authority can be mis-appropriated. Just like my lovely Royal family of the United Kingdom.. they have been entrusted with a great new bundle of DESTINY and POTENTIAL, and because of that the Responsibility of having such a son requires careful planning, coordination (dont laugh I taped the entire broadcast from CNN.UK to make sure my thinking was properly aligned with the concept of CHILDREN SET APART for PURPOSE). To step into a new place of authority and responsibility... even when you dont "feel ready", you still have to be ready, and then you have equip yourself to be ready... and then call on God to keep changing you for the unexpected. All of their attention will now go onto raising that child, based on desiring to give that child the best. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Jesus goes from making you DISCIPLES, and takes you OUT of the boat, to taking you out of the BOAT, and MAKES you build TENTS. Thats progression!!! ____________________________________________________________________________________ Jesus gives the disciples a Promotion, and gives them a Chapter 10!!! The Twelve Apostles10 Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and every sickness. 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: Jesus calls the TWELVE Apostles together.. around the SAME TIME.. in order to give them authority. Wow isnt that brilliant? In Chapter Ten Jesus calls them together and then begins to give them authority... or rather begins to release to repeat and do what they had observed from Chapter 4 to Chapter 10. __________________________________________________________________________________ Jesus calls the Twelve together and ISSUES them A NEW MISSION. MISSION: The Mission of the Twelve5 These twelve men were sent out by Jesus with the following instructions: “Do not go to any Gentile territory or any Samaritan towns. 6 Instead, you are to go to the lost sheep of the people of Israel. 7 Go and preach, ‘The Kingdom of heaven is near!’ 8 Heal the sick, bring the dead back to life, heal those who suffer from dreaded skin diseases, and drive out demons. Each depth of progression for the disciples who then became Apostles.. progressed until they both knew the Lords heart, and would know what His mission was and STILL IS. Jesus is still working... and just as the Apostle Paul and the Apostle Peter had a different assignment here in the earth.. we have a great assignment.. it can be as great as cultivating one child.. or a whole community. But it all begins with hearing that CALL from GOD to OUR heart... God is DEEP, but He is SIMPLE. He will speak to fishermen, in outward signs, because its like speaking to Moses at the bush /flame that wouldnt burn out... whatever will attract our attention to HEAR what He wants to say to us personally.. He created us to be His offspring.. so keep listening.. Jesus is talking..
