Calling all Haudenosaunee clothing designers! The IIM wants YOU. If non-conventional wearable art or innovative high fashion is your media, here’s a chance to strut your stuff! Rather than feature the handcrafted outfits and regalia that remain central to ceremonial and social life, our 2015 exhibit “Buckskin to Bikinis” will showcase 3-dimensional constructions by artists who employ fabric, leather, fur, plastic and other materials to push the boundaries of style and fashion far beyond cultural tradition. Wearable works that address political/personal identity, issues of appropriation, and other aspects of indigenous experience welcome. Original footwear, headwear, adornments and attire—urban chic to glam, avant-garde to post-apocalyptic—it’s all good!
