Calling all young ladies of Ohio County! The Navy Bean Fall Festival is currently seeking candidates for the 2013 Navy Bean Fall Festival Queen Pageant. The pageant will be the opening event of the festival on Friday, October 11 and take place on the Festival Main Stage at 5:30pm. The Pageant Committee strives to make the pageant a premier event for young women in our community. This pageant is not intended to be a beauty contest but a festival event for local girls to have fun, make new friends and walk away with a sense of pride for participating. Participants shall not be less than sixteen (16) nor more than twenty-one (21) years on August 31, 2013 and must currently reside in Ohio County and present proof of residency. All participants must attend an orientation meeting with the pageant coordinators on Saturday, September 21, 2013. All participants and the crowned queen must participate in the Navy Bean Fall Festival Parade on Saturday, October 12th, 2013. The 2013 Navy Bean Fall Festival Queen will act as the festival hostess on October 12th & 13th, 2012. The Pageant Coordinators and the Festival Committee Chair will bestow the hostess duties, which may include the introduction of festival entertainers. A list of the Queen’s duties is included in the application. Candidates must seek a sponsor to pay the $50 entry fee to cover pageant expenses. The sponsor will be recognized throughout the pageant. Local businesses and organizations are invited to recruit and sponsor an eligible candidate meeting the pageant criteria. The chosen 2013 Miss Navy Bean Festival Queen will receive a $550 scholarship. The second place winner will receive a $300 scholarship, and the third place winner will receive a $150 scholarship. All prizes are provided by Mayor Brandon Roeder & City Clerk-Treasurer Rae Baker Gipson. The 2013 Navy Bean Festival Queen will advance to participate in the Indiana State Festival Association Queen Pageant. The application deadline is September 21, 2013.
