“Callow = Band of Horses + Roky Erickson + Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. What punk rock would have been had it evolved from The Velvet Underground’s airy slowness rather than their minimalism.” -SLUG Magazine Callow is the project of a dancer, Knowles, and singer/songwriter, Moses. A series of seemingly random incidents brought them together on the stage in the fall of 2009, and theyve been making music and touring consistently ever since. Their influences range from Pink Floyd to Nina Simone to Pavement; strong vocals, minimal instrumentals, haunting melodies and poetic lyrics define Callow’s music. Their second album, Blue Spells was produced by Rob Bartleson, Yarn F Miners, and Brandon Eggleston (Modest Mouse, Tragically Hip). Callow’s show is mesmerizing, hypnotic, and transcendental. A fan once described them as “magic elves taking people to another realm.” Suspended in primal energy there’s a palpable tension and suspense that transforms the experience into more like a meditation than a rock show. Its like taking a magic carpet ride with the Devils fiddling hands themselves! -Magnet Magazine (album poll)
