Calls for the creation of a new refugee Camp between Kakuma and Lokichoggio, Not a good Idea!!! Refugee camps have become synonymous with terror activities. In respect to the current terrorism incidences, giving a quantitative statistical rating/assessment, refugee camps facilitation of acts of terror accounts for 60%. They have proven to be safe havens hosting terror groups command, communication, operations planning and administration under cover headquaters. Look at the place of Hagadera, Ifo 1 and 2, Dagahaley and Daadab refugee camps to insecurity in North Eastern Province, these refugee camps have signifcantly served as; Alshabaab armouries, command posts, logistic coordination bases, recruitment centres, communication hubs/centres, radicalization centres, assylum for war escapees from Somalia, hosting families of fighters in combat in Somalia, I have not exhausted the list. We are all aware Kakuma Refugee camp has been reasonably quiet and stable save for the manageable ethno-violence that occassionally flares up between the Dinka-Nuer communities, with no reported incidences of terror, we had better equally realize that that Turkana County has chaged from The unproductive ASAL District we knew as of yesterday instead promisingly headed to pin Kenya in the International map of the Oil Producing Countries. While Kakuma is hosting refugees predominantly from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Congo, among others, in the past IOM facilitated refugees transfers from Dadaab to Kakuma, besides the innumerable commonplace possession of Kenyan ID cards and passport by aliens should be reason for ease of access of North Western Kenya. It should be incumbent upon those of us responsible for the security function to plan with forsight since malevolent intentions on critical facilities in this part of the country can not be ruled out in the near future, it is not judging doom, but a reality different from the casual perspective we hold. While we are making calls for the establishment of another refugee camp between Kakuma and Lokichoggio, we must be cognizant of what is at state, more refugee camps is facilitating the spread of terrorism in Kenya, it would essentially be giving terror groups room to expand their operations and influence by embarking on switching terror agents from one end to the other. Instead of creating calling for creation of more refugee camps, lets have more rhetoric on winding up the existing, push the UNHCR to step up more refugees resettlement operations to ease the impacts of hosting refugees in Turkana County.
