Calum1916 Herron pleased with Celtics Youth Cup win By: Kenny McKay on 31 Oct, 2013 11:25 CELTIC Under-20s kicked of their defence of the SFA Youth Cup with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Stenhousemuir. After a goal-less first-half, the Hoops showed their class with four goals, while goalkeeper Leo Fasan also saved a late penalty from the visitors to ensure a clean sheet for the cup holders. John Herron got the scoring underway on 56 minutes, and the midfielder was delighted with the goal and, more importantly, the victory which sets up an away tie against St Johnstone in the next round. Speaking to the official Celtic website after the game, Herron said: “It could have been more than four because we had a lot of chances, but they hung in well. As soon as we got the first goal, however, we knew that we’d be able to get more. “Stenhousemuir set up well. Most weeks we’re facing teams who sit in and we have to try and break them down. And we knew that if we kept going and doing what we know we can do, that they would struggle to live with that for the whole 90 minutes. “At half-time, the coaches told us to keep playing the same way because we’d been passing the ball well, although sometimes the passes were a wee bit slow or sloppy, so they asked us to up the temp of the game. “We went out and did that, and we knew anyway that we had to go out after the break and create more chances.” Herron’s opener at the Bet Butler Stadium in Dumbarton, was added to by goals from Paul George, Paul McMullan and Jamie Lindsay. And the goals were no more than Celtic’s dominance deserved. “I’m happy to get a goal but the main priority is always to win the game. On a personal level, it’s always good to get a goal. “The main priority in a cup game is to get through to the next round but obviously at a club like Celtic there’s also a demand to perform well. “We’ve had a good start to the season – the results have been good even if the performances haven’t always been great, but we just need to keep our heads down and keep working hard.” Next up for the Celtic Under-19s is an away game against Ajax in Amsterdam on Tuesday in the UEFA Youth League.
