Calvary Charismatic church Day 1 Theme: Wisdom Speaker: Pastor Mensa Otabil. The bible is divided into five categories namely; *Books of the Lord : the first five books in the bible. *The historical books *The prophets (major and minor) Major because their books are longer and shorter books because their books are shorter. The book of wisdom is proverbs. The book of proverbs grew out of the experiences of the bible. An example is thou shall not lie , that is a law but remember reasons are not given. But as they live their life they get to know the effect of the law of God. Therefore the book of proverbs is the practice of the law of the lord. They are wise sayings and relevant in different circumstances. Remember proverbs are not laws but they are experiences. Based on your wisdom you can know when to answer a fool or not. The book of proverbs gives us rules and regulations to govern our life. *Proverbs 3: 19-20 *Psalm 104:24 Putting the above readings together, you get to know that wisdom is the foundational of Gods universe. Wisdom is what God used to found the earth. You cannot run away from wisdom. *Psalm 19:1-3. When you watch the creation of God, you realize that it speaks to you. Hence wisdom is the language of Gods universe. The whole of creation is speaking to us. Wisdom is unavoidable. It regulates and sustains the universe. It is the instrument of Gods universe. How do we use wisdom? Proverbs 4:5-9. Looking at the passage, wisdom is portrayed as a woman. Wisdom is a woman. This is so because you pursue wisdom just as a man pursues a woman. And that is the attitude you must have for wisdom. Pursue and run after wisdom. In all your getting means above everything pursue wisdom. From the passage,First get wisdom implying that passionately get wisdom. Then the passage says love her, pursue her , do not forget her and finally do not forsake her. But after Solomon had received wisdom, he forsook wisdom and pursued power and fame. He married 700 women and 300 concubines. I mean how do you remember their names. Why did Solomon marry women? He did so because he wanted power. He forsook wisdom and went for power and in the end he was fooled. So there is a temptation when you forsook wisdom. Sometimes people think wisdom is all about intelligence. Wisdom is both personal and collective wisdom. When you see a person, you can see the wisdom of that individual. And when you see a group like a church, nation, family, company etc, you can also see their wisdom. Dimensions of wisdom *spiritual: the fear of the Lord Psalm 111: 10 The fear of the Lord has two sides; one is to hate evil and the other is to delight the Lord .It means to look at God with deep respect or have a high value for God. The fear is high respect. Every good electrician fears electricity. Before they unplug anything, they are very careful with the mains and switches. This is so because they have had the experience. When you fear God, you begin to have an experience with Him. * mental: the deep insight into life. This is what most us are familiar with. Biblical wisdom is not going to school, and neither is a first class nor university. It is based on observation. Proverbs 6:6. Mentally wise person understands the principles of savings. It is observations and applications. *moral conduct: ability to choose what wrong and right. * practical wisdom: creative solutions to problems. This is what the book of wisdom talks about always. This how the Hebrews understood wisdom. The old testament was written in Hebrew and the new in Greek. Note that Greek and Hebrew are different. Philos(means love). In Hebrews, wisdom is a problem you are solving. The Greek wisdom is what you are talking about. And that brings the name philosophers. They never solve the problem. When the bible talks about wisdom, it means problem solvers. * Governmental: Wisdom is seen in how you govern things. Ruling with fairness and administration. If you do not know how to rule your house, how can you rule the house of the Lord. So wisdom is seen in how you govern yourself, house etc. If you go to somebodys house and has four kids , and their are writings on all their walls. And lets imagine another family with the same kids but no writings in the hall. Now the difference is one has governed the kids well that they write in books and slates and not on walls. When people come to your home, your wisdom is displayed. What I will see in your home, is your wisdom. Hence it is The way you handle what you have. Your children are demonstrations of your wisdom. It is all about wisdom not the devil. Wisdom is governmental. The problems of life are wisdom problems. Your problems of life is not spiritual but wisdom. When you lack it, you might think it is the devil. But it is wisdom. Do you how Peter handles marriage problems? Husbands dwell with your wife accordingly. In other words, if you are in marriage and do not apply wisdom then you are in trouble. Your wisdom level is very deficient when you think something is wrong but some elses had solved that same situation. Wisdom 👍🙏
