Camden County lost a great public servant with the passing of Edward W. Sayers. He began his governmental career as a Councilman in Gloucester Township from 1972 to 1974. He was also selected to serve as Gloucester Township’s Mayor in 1972. From 1974 to 1985 he was a Camden County Freeholder, rising to Freeholder Director in 1979. More recently he had served as a project manager for the Gloucester Township Housing Authority. Edward lived in Gloucester Township for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Gloucester Township Democrat Club, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he was a former Captain of Division XIII, and a former Commander of Flotilla 13-1 in Gloucester Township. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society, and the Friends of the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. The entire Freeholder Board wishes to extend our most heartfelt thoughts and condolences to his family and close friends. He taught us all what it truly means to serve our fellow citizens and give something back to our community.
