Camp Invention - KRES July 14-18 - GRES July 28-Aug. 1 If you had a tendency to break things as a kid just to see what was inside and then spent the rest of the day trying to put all the parts back together again Camp Invention would have been a perfect place to spend a week during the summer. One of the most popular stations was “I Can Invent: Pinbug” where students broke apart recycled computers and other machines to build an insect-themed pinball machine. Students then used tools to uncover mechanical items and turn them into bumpers, targets and scoreboards. Finally, they learned pinball physics, anatomy and math by propelling a ball onto the playfield with the ultimate cardboard launcher and insect leg flippers. During the “Super Go” station students created morphing vehicles that operated on land, in the air and underwater. They explored energy, fuel, movement and animal features, and applied these discoveries to motor-powered vehicles. “Students learn to create in a group environment with people they’ve never worked with before,” said Michelle Grell, Comal ISD instructional facilitator and the camp’s director. “Cooperative learning is a great life skill.
