Camp Report: Phenom Hoops Skills Camp Part VI By Rick Lewis Phenom Skills Camp Review Part VI https://youtube/watch?v=-SGZCLLBGpc When we advertised the Phenom Skills camp, we stated it would be an intense, hard-nosed approach to basketball special skill training for players who are looking to improve their game. The camp was an opportunity for players to fine-tune their game and learn some basic fundamentals along the way. Our camp broke the players into small groups to maximize the teaching and learning process. The first half of camp focused on stations working on skill specific drills. The second half of the day, the players put many of these into action as they played three on three and five on five. The best thing about the stations, you can observe and watch a player’s work ethic, which shows which players are serious about working hard, and getting better. In the next few days, the Phenom Hoop Report will take a look at many of the campers that stood out to the camp coaches and Phenom Hoop Report staff. Part VI Davier Dixon WS Prep NC5’11 ’18 Davier Dixon of Winston-Salem Prep is definitely one to watch. He has been a regular of the Phenom camps and continues to impress with his work ethic and skill set combined with good athleticism. Dixon has good quickness and has advanced ball-handling skills. He has all he making of an upper level PG at the high school level. 5’8 ’19 Bryce Radford of Beaver, WV is simply a basketball “gym rat.” He is passionate about his game and was one of the hardest working players at the Phenom Skills camp. Radford has excellent fundamentals and an advanced skillset and understanding of the game for his age/grade. We were impressed with his unselfish play and ability to get his teammates involved in the offense. Callin Randolph burnsville NC5’8 ’20 Calin Randolph of Burnsville, NC was one of the youngest players in attendance, but you wouldn’t have known it by his play. Randolph has a tremendous skillset and is so poised for his age/grade. We have watched Randolph in AAU settings and has always been one of the better players in his age group. He has been well coached and is a knock down shooter from the perimeter. Johnny Caraher chapel hill NC5’10 ’21 Johnny Caraher of Chapel Hill, NC It’s hard to believe he is just a sixth grader, but the younger Caraher showed the work ethic of his big brother. What impressed us was his attitude to work hard and he used this session to improve his game. Johnny was like a “sponge” when it came to listening and learning. While he is really young, his shooting fundamentals are solid. Got a feeling, the younger Caraher will be following in his brother’s footsteps. 5’8 ’19 Thomas Powell is your typical player from Greensboro Day School. He is fundamentally sound, high IQ and understands how to play the game. He has good length and already has a nice basketball frame. Powell has a nice shooting touch and his shooting mechanics are solid.
