Campaign against injustice for persons with disabilities is one of the voices available in Sierra Leone, charged with the sacred responsibility to articulate on issues bothering people with special needs. The 11th year old war in Sierra Leone left a lot of the citizens with permanent disability Our rights have been laid down in different legal instruments. But not much has been done in the Implementation of these rights privileges that we should enjoy is farfetched. These legal instruments such as the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, the Disability Act of 2012 have all in principle addressed the problems of discrimination, marginalization, Unemployment and other unfair and in human treatment; Campaign against injustice for persons with disabilities has loudly been speaking in these directions in a bid in making people with special needs live a better and a descent life. A lot of advocacy is needed in tackling the problems of social discrimination faced by persons living With Disabilities (PWD’S). Firstly, many house owners are often reluctant to rent out their premises to people living with disabilities for the fear that their estates will not be properly looked after. Some even fear that P.W.D’s cannot raise the required sums to offset their rents, bills and rates. This is also prevalent in many academic institutions, public transportation, etc. In times past, many people were shy to enter in to relationships with people living with disabilities as they fear that their disabilities are contagious. Many also feared that society would bash at them when they dare take such a ventures. Others attribute such a relationship as ill luck. Campaign against injustice for persons with disabilities is assiduously working very hard to ameliorate these social odds. Unemployment is a peculiar problem in Sierra Leone that has led to increase crime rates and all sorts of Idleness. Hence, young people are ready to be engaged in all sorts of activities just to make ends meet. Yong people are now willing to acquire education at the highest level but there is no incentive for that. Due to the high rate of unemployment in the country, young people are not attracted to education as a means of future survival rather; they look up to businesses of any sorts. This is even worse with P.W.D.S’s as employers feel that they can never be up to the task in discharging any function allocated to them. This is a major problem more so when the state uses tax payer’s moneys to educate these P.W.D D’s owing to the policy of free tertiary education. Our organization is now advocating for this policy to be implemented right from elementary school, as many of our findings have reported that many people living with disabilities drop out of school very early even before they can make it to any tertiary institutions. Abuse and violence against persons with disabilities is one of the major reasons for the setting up of this organization. Many spouses particularly the men abandon their wives when they contract any form of disability or bring forth children with disability. Many men come round women with disabilities with the promise of marrying them and abandon them after they are been impregnated. Many don’t even show up to claim the pregnancies. This lives these disabled women with no help mate and them often times care for their kids single handedly. Our organization has take up this matter with the central and the local authorities and most times the Culprits are apprehended and brought to justice. Many of these perpetrators often flee in a bid to evade Justice. Our organization is working closely with law firms in addressing these social ills in our country. P.W.D.’s are NOT adequately represented in all forms of decision making. Many POLITICAL PARTIES ARE NOT OFTEN READY TO ALLOCATE SYMBOLS TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES IN ELECTABLE AREAS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THEIR POLITICAL STRONG HOLDS. THE INVOLVEMENT OF P.W.’D’S, IN SPORTS HAS BEEN IGNORED BY MANNY IN THE SOCIETY WHICH HAS IMPEDED US FROM FULLY EXHIBITING OUR ABILITIES AND POTENTIALS. OUR ORGANIZATION BELIEVES THAT WITH ENORMOUS SUPPORTING IN EMBARKING ON MASSIVE SENSITIZATION THROUGH MUSIC, DRAMA, TOWN HALL MEETINGS, RADIO AND TELEVISION PROGRAMMES A LOT WOULD BE ACHIEVED. AS AWAY IN MAKING JUSTICE ACCESSABLE FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES, WE ALL IN THE SOCIETY needs TO COME ON BOARD TO SALVAGE THESE PROBLEMS OF INJUSTICE OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES.
