Campaigners call for more rural cash Rural campaigners are calling on the government to change the way it funds councils to give rural areas a better deal. They claim urban authorities receive 50% more money per person than their rural counterparts. Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, who is leading the campaign, said he wants the gap to cut to 40% in the next seven years. "We are not arguing for more government spending overall but for fair allocations within the spending envelope. When money is tight it is even more important that funding allocations are fair," he said.
