Can an act of kindness be the culprit for a majority of accidents - TopicsExpress

Can an act of kindness be the culprit for a majority of accidents in Springdale? We have all been stuck in slowing or stopped traffic, due to a red light. At certain times of the day, red lights can cause a major roadway to back up for several blocks. What about the cars that cannot pull out of a private drive, or make a left turn due to the slowing or stopped traffic? They are thinking, I am going to be stuck here all day trying to turn! Then, a hero comes along.... Someone is nice enough to stop and wave you through. As if to say, I will stop traffic and allow you to pass safely on to your destination. You cross one lane, but fail to see that traffic is still moving in the next. BANG! A car slams into you, and perhaps doesnt even have time to hit the brakes! Many people fail to realize that just because the inside lane is stopped, doesnt mean the outside lane is stopped…or the turn lane…or the oncoming traffic lane. Our vision is often blocked, especially if you are in a car, trying to look around a truck or SUV. These are tough situations, and we wish there was a great alternative. Our advice is to be extremely careful and extremely patient in these situations. If you are turning across traffic, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure the path is clear. Not anyone else, not even the hero. Our Traffic Division created this short Crash Zone video demonstrating how easily it can occur.
