Can any clever person help me - My PCs Windows Media Player has - TopicsExpress

Can any clever person help me - My PCs Windows Media Player has stopped working, its says there is corrupt files and shuts down. I have tried deleting the media library and then running update in control panel - I have attempted a repair from disc ( no option other than reboot windows completely and delete everything thats on PC currently which I dont want to do) - I have looked online for help but cant see any other option mentioned than what I have tried already. I run Windows 8 with Win 8.1 update. It was working pre last Windows update and cant see what has stopped it working. Everything else is fine - I just want to watch DVDs via PC FFS ;-) All useful comments appreciated.
