Can someone please help me understand...... They postpone the surgery (bowel cancer) because the surgeon wasnt available on the date set. Two weeks later surgery is again postponed because his GP advises that he is too unwell, due to a cough, to undergo an anaesthetic and was prescribed antibiotics. Another week goes by and his GP says I suppose we better not call it off again, lets go ahead as planned. So we make the 80km trek at 5am last Thursday to the hospital. Hes coughing and vomiting when we get to the admissions desk, and a hour later is told that he is too unwell to go to theatre today, however, we will admit him and do a chest X-Ray and an abdominal scan. The scan showed no blockages, and the X-Ray - well - we were told it was clear by one medical staff member and shadowing by another. He was given NO other medications or treatment while he was in hospital over the next 48 hours. Sent home on Saturday morning with no more (or less) than what he walked in with. No more mess, no less cough/chest infection. Monday morning he gets a call from the hospital telling/demanding him to return to the hospital ASAP so that they can clear up this infection and then be able to operate. He was a little hesitant at first but after consulting again with his GP, and being told by a surgeon over the phone that he will get all the medical attention available to clear up this infection so that can then prepare him for his original surgery that has been postponed since 21 February. So back in the car and away we go back to the hospital. After a chest scan today he has been told that he has bronchitis. Great. You wont guess what happens next........ I called him tonight and was passed to a medical staff member, who tells me that they are going to give him a handful of pills and send him home to get well before surgery. Can u believe this???? I had my say and now await a call in the morning. Am I getting upset and frustrated over nothing or do I have the right to go off????
