Can this be decent or even adequate journalism when there is no mention that rising prices exacerbate the predicament of a working class that has suffered wage stagnation and even wage decreases for more than 35 years. In what world can these two dots not be connected? Answer: In a world in which the press continually presents an America as advertised rather than the America in which we live. If thousands of mortgages are underwater, if wages are stagnant or falling, how can these factors be ignored when writing or speaking of inflation? It’s not unlike the press yammering about about an uptick in housing starts being an indicator of an improved economy when we all know damned well we can’t afford the houses. This is dressed like journalism, but it’s propaganda, a skewed view that helps our oligarchy perpetuate the myth that we still live in a democratic and just society.
