GOVERNMENT DENY RIGHT FOR NURSES TO MEET IN HOSPITAL TO DISCUSS BUDGET ANMF (Tas Branch) is shocked that the Government has given a directive to all managers to refuse ANMF’s request to meet with members at a membership meeting at the Launceston General Hospital post the handing down of the budget. Mrs Neroli Ellis states “John Kirwan, CEO THO-N has notified ANMF today, that in contrast to normal processes, and due to “recent advice from SSMO, we are not able to agree to THON facilities being used for this meeting”” “ANMF had requested to use the Lecture Theatre at LGH for a membership meeting and stated that “The intention of this meeting will be to feedback and discuss the situation for nurses post the handing down of the governments budget. “” “This is an alarming development for the Hodgman Government to ensure nurses, midwives and care staff are kept in the dark. This may force members to hold a stop work meeting outside the hospital to learn more about the impacts of the state budget on health in Tasmania which may impact on patient care.” “It is exactly this sort of protest meeting that will be caught up in the Anti-Protest Bill and force nurses and midwives to be “ protesters” and subject to criminal charges” “This is a Government which has gone too far.” ANMF Federal Council is meeting today in Hobart and unanimously passed a resolution condemning the industrial strategies of this Government.
