Can you hear that?? (Sounds of Tigers ROARING viciously in the backgroud)......Tonight, Ladies and Gentleman, there is no moral victories to speak of, there is nothing about heart and determination or hard fought wins by an undersized team. Tonight is about ONE team FLAT OUT DOMINATING a football game against the team that was supposed to challenge them for the District Title. The St. Marys Tigers put, not just District 3-1A, but DIVISION IV on notice that they are WITHOUT QUESTION the real deal after a convincing thumping of the Block Bears, 33-0. The only thing difficult about this game, IS FOR ME!!! Just who in the world gets the Athlete of the Week for the Tigers. What I witnessed tonight was a Tiger TEAM that won EVERY SINGLE battle at EVERY position on the field ALL NIGHT LONG. Lets start with 8th grader Sam Simmons 89 yards rushing and THREE touchdowns. (worthy candidate I would say) How about senior quarterback Tyler McCain? 123 yards passing on 9 of 17 (5 on third or forth down to convert into first downs) and 20 yards rushing. Including a 39-yard touchdown pass and NO picks (Also Worthy of the award) How about junior receiver Ryan Cunningham - 6 catches for 48 yards and 4 of them on third down to convert first downs (why not him) What about the guys that dont get the love with the Stats? The ENTIRE offensive line - Tyler Ward, Joseph Thibodaux, Cade Woodard, Thomas Lirette, Behrette Behrendsen who allowing the backs to run for 232 yards. The Defensive line who allowed just 19 yards rushing on 26 carries in Josh Lucky, Ty Barbour, Nick Miller, Cade Woodard and Thomas Lirette. How about the linebackers? If Drake Hale, Hunter Bedgood and Thomas Lirette made one tackle for no gain or a loss they made TWENTY...all three were BALL HAWKS......Not to mention Hales blocked punt and Bedgood who also got his usual solid numbers on the offensive side (86 yards rushing and a touchdown) despite fighting through cramps for most of the night. The secondary, Slade Bienvenu (who had an interception), Aaron Howell, Garrett Vienne and Michael Leone....along with assisting in stopping the run, they held the Block receivers to just ONE catch for 34 yards......Leone also had 2 catches for 47 yards including a 39 yard touchdown. Take a Bow Tigers.....That was simply a fundamental CLINIC you guys put on tonight!! Recap story to come shortly
