Can you help our appeal for information after schoolboy approached in Nether Poppleton, York? Police in York are investigating the circumstances of an incident which occurred on Millfield Lane in Nether Poppleton, on the Poppleton side of the flyover. Officers were called at around 3.45pm on Friday 24 January 2014 after a 10-year-old boy reported that he had been approached by a man driving a dark green car as he walked home from school. The man asked him for directions and got hold of the boys arm before driving off. The man did not get out of the car. The boy is safe and well and is assisting specially trained police officers with information to assist the investigation. There could be an innocent explanation for the incident and police are urging the man in the green car to contact the police and explain his actions. Officers would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident or who has any other information which could assist the enquiry. Please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and pass information to York CID or you can email [email protected] The boy did the right thing by telling his mother as soon as he arrived home, who then alerted the police. Our advice for young people is never go with a stranger, never take things from a stranger, never get in a car with a stranger and always tell you parents or carer where you are, who you are with and what time you will be home. If a stranger tries to touch you, tell them no, get home or to a safe place as quickly as you can and tell your parents, carer or someone you trust straight away.
