Can you help this RI Dispatcher?? -Keith Im writing to you guys in an attempt to get some information. Im an operator at Rhode Island 911. We answer all the 911 calls for the state and transfer them to individual cities and towns who dispatch the calls out. We, as Im sure most of you do as well, get inundated with cell phone hang ups either with no communication or the usual screaming followed by I didnt call 911. We can look into the caller history for that phone which allows us to see when that phone called and what gps went along with it, but that is all. I want to talk to our higher ups about the possibility of creating a database that would allow us to check a number and see immediately each time they called, what address was either given or researched, and what services were sent out and why. Now to be honest I do not know for sure if this type of database exists, but I have to believe with technology where it is that there must be something along these lines. We are doing between 500k & 600k calls a year which are roughly 70-75% wireless as Im sure everyone else is. It takes too much time on an open line domestic cell phone call to have a supervisor call the cellular provider in an attempt to retrieve subscriber information which wont even be there on a prepaid which is becoming more and more common. Our area is so condensed that when the gps is accurate (which depending on the provider is not very dependable, AT&T can be off by miles which in RI means a lot) it does not necessarily give us a place to send the police. There are too many residences that contain multiple buildings and apartments in each building to expect the PD to be able to find anything of value. Any information you guys could provide me would be greatly appreciated.
