Can you imagine a political demonstration involving some one and a half million people doing the same thing at the same time -- holding hands and thus creating a human chain spanning 600 kilometers (about 375 miles)? This is what we did today 25 years ago, a continuous human chain form Tallinn (Estonia) to Vilnius (Lithuania). It was to commemorate 50 years form the Molotov - Ribbentrop Pact (signed on August 23rd, 1939 in Crimea), in which in essence Stalin and Hitler divided Europe. Week later war broke off and a year later the three independent countries were no longer. It took us over 50 years to re-establish our independence.
