Canada -- CIC Strike Update Good Wednesday: Treasury Board - TopicsExpress

Canada -- CIC Strike Update Good Wednesday: Treasury Board President Tony Clement has accepted an arbitration offer from the Professional Association of Foreign Services Officers (PAFSO). Although there are conditions to the offer, this is good news for the international education sector in Canada, which has been affected by the strike. Canadian unversities and colleges through their respective associations has pressured the government to resolve the issues with PAFSA in order to return to normal processing times for international student visas. The strike has affected visa officers and Trade Commissioners working on the education file. This DOES NOT mean that the strike is over. It simply means that pending agreement on a few items, the union will have a chance to vote on the proposed agreement which should happen within the next week to ten days. We are hopeful that combined with the additional $43 million allocated in the last budget to improve processing times for Temporary Resident Visas (under which international students fall) and the proposed regulations to ensure that international students are in Canada to study, our students and agents will see an improved landscape for international students in Canada in the next months.
