Dedication. Respect. Pride. Passion. CHAA was formed in 1985 to ensure important pieces of aviation history would remain in Canada. Our all-volunteer organization has grown over these twenty-nine years with members from all over the world, and sees us now maintaining a fleet of eight airworthy aircraft as well as two others under restoration. CHAA honours the memory of all those who served and are serving today, many who have given the ultimate sacrifice. We do not take this responsibility lightly. When we touch the wing, turn the prop, see the roundel, smell the oil, hear the roar and feel the rumble, our hearts fill with respect, passion and pride, and we are dedicated to preserving this fleet entrusted into our care. In accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations, in the next eighteen months we need to overhaul five propellers, three of which are due in April. If all components pass inspection, this will cost $3,000 - $5,000 EACH; should problems be found, this cost could run to $12,000 each and well beyond. Also, we have two engines awaiting overhaul at Covington Aircraft in Oklahoma, at a cost of approximately $40,000 US each. As you can see, these necessary expenditures will be costly.
