Canadian moment. There was a shooting down about a block or two from my house. Police shot a disturbed individual this morning. The special investigators are investigating... this isnt the Canadian part... As a consequence of the shooting a major thoroughfare and two major intersections were closed for most of the day. On my way home from work, in the twilight, I ran into massive traffic jams (this is getting to the Canadian part). I pulled up in front of my house about twenty minutes late. Our boarder, a sweet lady from Mexico, was just arriving as well. I saw her talking to what I took to be a friend. I rolled down my window and the lady approached my car. She was South Asian and very definitely English was a second or third language. She was also NOT a friend of our boarder. She was lost and panicking. It seems the closed roads and detours had broken up her driving routine. Add to the fact that the sun was going down so gosh darned early, and this was her first cold weather day in Canada, you can see why she would be in such a state. I invited her in our house and she got a relative on the phone and I gave him our address to punch into his GPS. She sat at our supper table and sipped water until her relative arrived, then she pulled out and followed him bumper to bumper... I figure give her two or three snowfalls and shell be driving like a boss... :-) Life is good.
