Candidate Chuck Meyers begins his Honorable campaign by attacking Steve Stockman. Congressman Stockman has yet to begin his campaign yet Meyers has decided that Congressman will run a negative campaign. Meyers has begun a pre-emptive negative campaign by casting accusations against Steve Stockman. The following are quotes from Chuck Meyers after he posted a news paper article attacking Congressman Stockman. Please when you vote remember who began the negative Campaign: On Monday, October 28th, at the Harris Country Republican Party Rally, I announced my intention to campaign for the Republican nomination for the 36th Congressional seat that Mr. Stockman currently occupies. Let it be known that I will not tolerate attempts to assassinate my character or impugn my integrity, and I will use every ethical and legal tool at my disposal to attack the spurious and defamatory allegations that are SURE to come my way I hope Mr. Stockman will surprise us all and run on his record, and not on personal attacks against his opponent in an attempt to elevate himself through half-truths and lies that are designed to denigrate his opponent. I will commit to the voters of the 36th Congressional District that I will ensure that my campaign is run with the utmost integrity, and that I will not respond to attacks on my character within anything less than the utmost of professionalism. I stand by all my statements as the truth. Call them mud as you will, . One truth in your (Stockman) candidates PACK OF LIES and half-truths in the past campaigns does not turn his campaign tactics into the truth. It is indeed funny that you, will not rise up to my challenge and get Mr. Stockman to issue a pledge to engage in ethical campaigning. I have made the pledge; he should do the same. Final Chapter -- If I have defamed Steve Stockman, I will apologize publicly. However, as you are in the media business you know full well that truth is an absolute defense to defamation. None of my statements publicly or privately rise to the level of defamation. I am merely shining the light on the character of Mr. Stockmans past campaigns, and challenging him to run on his record and cut out the personal attacks this go around. I have not stated anything more than the plain truth. I only seek to shine the light on behavior that damages the conservative cause, and crosses the line from hard campaigning to personal attacks to unethical behavior As to your opinion, I disagree. There is nothing hypocritical about pointing out that the Stockman campaign ALWAYS uses personal attacks to elevate his candidacy rather than debating and running on the issues, or in this case his record. It is not hypocritical to point out that his campaign workers were dismissed by the Congressman for ALLEGEDLY violating campaign finance rules. There is plenty in the public record to support my only point: The Stockman campaign prefers to campaign negatively rather than positively and transcends the border between ethical and unethical frequently. If Mr. Stockmans campaign is run the same way he always runs his campaigns, then he will be called out at every turn.
