Candidates Face Off in Forum Debate in Agawam AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB) — Candidates running for seats on Beacon Hill faced-off in Agawam Thursday night. The debate at the Roberta G. Doering School was sponsored by the West of the River Chamber of Commerce. (R) 2nd Hampden/Hampshire District Senator Don Humason and his challenger, (D) Patrick Leahy, debated in Thursday’s forum. “When I looked at [Senator Humasons] record, I simply couldn’t believe it,” explains Patrick Leahy. “That’s one of the reasons I got into this race. We need effective leadership and we get the government we deserve. The district deserves better.” Senator Humason says it’s okay that Leahy paints him as “someone who doesn’t file a lot of bills.” “There are other things that we do in this job that’s important to the constituents we represent back at home,” contends Humason. “I’ll have to do a better job at getting across that list of accomplishments, but it’s also hard to stand there and pat yourself on the back. That’s not my style either.” (R) State Representative Nicholas Boldyga was also in attendance. (D) State Representative candidate Samuel DiSanti did not show up. Both Humason and Leahy agreed how important these debates are, as it gives them the opportunity to distinguish themselves as candidates. The election is on November 4th.
