Cape Town Peeps....please help us find homes for these gorgeous babie. Below are their stories and what led to their human camp anion looking for homes for them...please share and help them find good homes The story behind my dogs needing a home. I have always been the person who stops on the side of the road to help an injured dog, rush them to the vet, network a home and organize finances to cover the cost of treatment. So began my journey into the world of animal welfare. Whilst working in a local township, a neighbor pointed out a house to me where several puppies were scamering around, covered in dirt and flies, in apalling condition and on closer examination covered in fleas. The mommy dog was also there, the poor girl, having given birth who knows how many times in her short life and I knew I had to confiscate all the dogs, which I did. Having nowhere else to go I brought the family home and nursed them back to health. They were dewormed, treated for mange and fleas. I spent countless days feeding them, bathing them and caring for them. It was extremely difficult under the circumstances having already had 3 dogs of my own but I knew I couldnt leave them there to suffer and languish. After a few weeks it was time to rehome them. Through my extensive network on facebook I found all the puppies bar one a home. The dog I kept with me I named SMUDGE. He was the runt of the litter, was terrified of people, had clearly been abused as he ran away from me and hid under a shed when I came to confiscate him. I managed to grap his tail and pulled him out that way. He cowered in any corner, just peeking out with his big, intelligent little eyes. It took months before he came out of his shell and he turned into a well-adjusted, loyal, loving angel. I recently moved off a farm after staying there for 17 months but the farm sold and all the tenants had to leave. Whilst we chose an animal friendly neighborhood I was reported to the local Law Enforcement by a neighbor for having more than 2 dogs on my erf. I was given a week to rehome 3 of my dogs who are my entire life, my entire being. I am faced with having to euthanase my dogs if I cannot find them a home. Dogs Ive fought so hard for..... to have to possibly kill them, is killing me. They deserve more and better than that. DAISY was rescued from farm labourers whose idea of looking after animals is not to give them any water, never feed them or rather feed them things like potato peels. The labourers are drunk every week-end. I took 3 puppies home with me and they had their first innoculations but even so, parvo struck and after nursing the puppies around the clock, they passed over the rainbow bridge, leaving me with just one puppy - a black labrador x. Daisy is nothing but a joy. She is the sweetest dog Ive ever known. She is just 8 months old and is sterilized. Excellent with other dogs and cats. HYENA - After a trip to Cape Town, sitting at the robots at Somerset West, I was approached by a man with the strangest looking puppy Ive ever seen. She had dappled fur, like a Merle Great Dane. Thats where the similarity ends. She has grown into a small/medium little girl. I couldnt bear to think that she would be sold to some unscrupulous dog fighting rings or something sinister. Despite already having 5 dogs, I bought Hyena and brought her home. Poor little thing was undernourished and afraid. She clung to me in the car like a baby, with her legs over my shoulders. I nursed her around the clock and brought her back to health. Its been 2 years since Ive had Hyena. She deserves more than what Im faced choosing for her - death. She is loyal, loving and totally adorable. Photo 1: Smudge Photo 2: Daisy Photo 3: Hyena
