#CapitalNewsBit More than 2,000 survivors of the latest landslides in Bududa district have fled their homes to safer areas as they wait for government’s intervention. On Saturday afternoon, a fresh landslide swept 16 villages in the parishes of Matuwa, Namirumba, Bumayoka and Bushiyi in Bulucheke Sub County killing one person and seriously injuring 18 others. John Baptist Nambeshe, the Bududa District LC5 chairman identified the deceased as 8-year-old John Mangoye, a resident of Matuwa village, Matuwa parish in Bulucheke Sub County. The injured were rushed to Bushiyi health center III before being transferred to Bududa Hospital where they have all been admitted. Among the affected villages include Sheteka, Nakesa, Nakungulu, Namirumba lower and Himatubu. Hundreds of hectares of crops like Maize, cassava, beans, matooke, and coffee were destroyed by the hailstorms, while several people lost their households properties to the fast moving water from river Manafwa that burst its bank after it was blocked by the boulders and soil from the landslides. Meanwhile all the survivors who were earlier trapped on either side of River Manafwa after the bridge collapsed had by 9pm on Saturday all been rescued by the locals from the lower side.
