Captain Clarke to the rescue Newcastle Town 2 v 2 Kidsgrove Athletic Castle started with the usual attacking 2-4-2 formation but with Tommy Beamon deployed in central midfield to mark the opposition’s playmaking number 10. The blues made a good start in an end to end match which was notable for some excellent counter-attacking from both sides. Kidsgrove took the lead against the run of play after twenty enthralling minutes as Castle went to sleep and allowed a short corner, this resulted in a back post cross which was headed home past Bradley Reynolds. Castle soon bounced back though and Owen Wilshaw, Elliot Darlington and Zack Devaney-Wiggins brought a number of good saves from the away custodian before the pressure told and Zach Lundstrum headed in his third goal of the week from an Elliot Darlington corner. Half-Time 1-1 The second half was again end to end with Liam Matthews, Alex Smith and Kyle Yemm having to be alert to snuff out counter attacks. The game looked to be petering out into a draw when again against the run of play Kidsgrove scored with a looping header during a goalmouth scramble following a corner. The blues never gave up though and earned a deserved draw right at the end when Elliot Darlington knocked a cross in from the left which was headed on by captain marvel Harry Clarke past the flailing arms of the Kidsgrove keeper. All in all an entertaining game played by two strong sides who cancelled each other out for long periods but ended in a fair draw as a result of unusually FOUR headed goals. Man of the match – Tommy Beamon Appearances – All 2 except Jake Bennett 1 Goals – Zach Lundstrum 3, Harry Clarke and Elliot Darlington 2,Owen Wilshaw and Sullivan Nicely 1
