Captains Log, Road Trip of Insanity - Day 5: Chowboy Wandered Down a Canyon and into a Pizza Parlor to Become Doughboy. Just when I thought yesterdays triumphs couldnt be outdone weve gone and outdone them. The day started at Ye Old Pancake Station, a breakfast nook near and dear to my heart. I had a traditional Texas breakfast, a skillet with grilled biscuits topped with eggs, peppers, melted cheese and of course gravy. I told the waitress to hold off on sausage and the look she shot was one that made me pee a little and convinced me that I should in fact have sausage in my Texas skillet...I was momentarily terrified. After breakfast we headed to Palo Dura Canyon, the second largest canyon in these United States. There we hiked, collected rocks, gems, and even fossils, and hiked the canyon. Parker became a billy goat and braved the canyon walls like...well like an 11 year who didnt know any better. He had an amazing time and of course didnt want to leave. On our way out we passed a construction zone complete with port o potties who in a very Texan manner were called Waste Wranglers. Tiff, in her ever ingenious mastery of the English Language and Texas vernacular thought it more appropriate to add a tag line : Waste Wranglers, We Lasso Your Ass Trash. Crude I know, but still ingeniously clever...just try saying it without smiling... Tonight we met two old friends of Sue and Tiffani s at a pizza parlor. There was music, food, laughter, and after staring at the pizza man tossing dough for 15 minutes the same way Damian must have stared at his mother, the pizza man relented and gave Parker his own dough to toss...I must say if Cabin Boy doesnt work out hell have a strong back up career. We stayed until most in the parlor left, overall it was my favorite of meals so far. Now, as captain I am forced to keep a hardened and stoic persona, I think Park and Tiff will agree that I am most able in pulling this off. Coming home tonight however I find myself sad as we are due to leave for Denver tomorrow morning. We have had an amazing time here and all of us will miss Sue and sweet Amarillo dearly. Parker in particular has fallen in love with this place and his love for Sue has only deepened...wherever we went he was always first to take the seat next to her, I really enjoyed watching them together. I look forward to returning one day to Santa Fe and Amarillo, and to seeing Sue either in the Southwest or back in our home port. Stay tuned for Day 6: My favorite omelet of all is...Denver.
