Car kills Civil Defence Corps official in Ado Ekiti AN official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in the Ekiti State command, Mr Taiwo Adesuyi, was on Thursday knocked down and killed by a vehicle as he rode on a commercial motorcycle to the state headquarters of the command. Adesuyi, said to be an officer of the Corps attached to Ikole Local Government Area of the state, died at about 10:00 a.m. at Housing Road in the state capital and the incident threw witnesses and residents of the area into confusion as they all gathered to rescue the victim and prevent the driver from running away. While the NSCDC official died on the spot, the commercial cyclist survived the accident. Witnesses said a Mistubushi Space bus with registration number Ondo AH 497 KAK knocked down the officer and the ‘okada’ rider resulting to the death of the officer, saying the driver of the vehicle was a “a young person who seemed to be a learner,” saying “the incident would have been averted if the driver happened to be an experienced and well trained.” Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle had been arrested by policemen from the Oke Ila Police Division while the vehicle was impounded. Reacting to the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Mr Tolu Afolabi, described it as unfortunate, saying Adesuyi was on his way to a sentisisation programme organised by the Private Guard Company (PGC) when he met his death. He said the officer was married with children, adding that his family had been contacted. Meanwhile, a truck loaded with cement, belonging to a popular cement company in the country, has reportedly claimed three lives on Oyun Bridge, Ilorin on the Kwara State Polytechnic Road in the state capital in the early hours of Thursday. Nigerian Tribune gathered from an eyewitness, Mr Ibrahim Tajudeen, that a commercial motorcycle rider overtook a car and had a head-on collision with the oncoming cement truck, killing three people instantly. The incident, which brought about pandemonium in the area, saw many people carting away some of the cement products. It was also gathered that the incident provoked some residents of the area, and they subsequently set the truck ablaze.
